Batik
Batik is a traditional textile dyeing technique in which hot wax is applied to fabric, creating complex and detailed designs. This technique, originating from the island of Java in Indonesia, is characterized by the creation of intricate and colorful patterns and is a deeply rooted art form and cultural expression in many regions of Indonesia.
Formal Definition:
Batik is a resist dyeing technique in which hot wax is applied to areas of a fabric that are to be protected from dye. The wax acts as a barrier that prevents the color from soaking into those areas, thus creating a design or pattern when the wax is removed. The fabric is dipped in the dye, and once the wax-protected areas are removed, the desired design is revealed.
